Lives of the Saints
Nino Ricci burst on to the literary scene twenty years ago with the publication of his first novel, Lives of the Saints (Cormorant Books). The novel went on the win the Governor General’s Award and to become a Canadian classic, while Ricci has become a much lauded literary figure. Fitting then, that this special edition of the novel is illustrated by Tony Urquhart, who is recognized as one of Canada’s pioneering abstract artists, and has illustrated stories by his wife, Jane Urquhart, as well as those by Michael Ondaatje, Matt Cohen, Louis Dudek, and Rohinton Mistry. The evening will reveal the process of collaboration between writer and painter while they reinvent a classic and beloved work.
